Happy New Year!! I am kicking off 2013 with a look back at all of my favorite recipes of 2012. I tend to only post recipes that I love, so it was pretty hard to narrow it down to just a few favorites, but in no particular order here they are!

IMG_9272

Meyer Lemon Rosemary Sticky Buns
I am so happy that it is Meyer lemon season again so that I can make these!  There is nothing quite as unforgettable as the smell of these babies baking in the morning.

IMG_9332

Bulgur and Kale Casserole with Yogurt Topping
I proclaimed this as being my favorite recipe in all of January last year and I can still remember how hearty and delicious it was even though a whole year has passed.

IMG_9874

Carrot and Tahini Soup
Melissa Clark is a genius when it comes to her soup recipes. Simple and satisfying.

IMG_0271

Barley Risotto with Brussels Sprouts, Apples, and Champagne Honey Mustard
This recipe won a Saucy Mama recipe contest last year! The challenge was to create a new recipe using one of their mustards.  I don’t even like mustard and I still loved this risotto. That’s saying something.

IMG_0753

Sweet Potato Spinach Pesto Lasagna Rolls
These sweet potato spinach pesto lasagna rolls were the first meal that I ever cooked for The.Boy. so they hold a special place in my heart and taste buds.  Not to mention that they are just downright delicious.

IMG_0704

Peanut Butter and Jelly Cupcakes with Peanut Butter Chocolate Ganache
I also made these peanut butter and jelly cupcakes for The.Boy. to celebrate his birthday.  They contain pretty much all things good in this world.

IMG_1123

Giant Chipotle White Beans
I didn’t realize how delicious this bean casserole would be, but between the smoky chipotle spice, the melted cheese, and the bread crumb topping it’s no wonder they were one of my favorites of 2012!

IMG_0878

White and Dark Chocolate Coconut Macadamia Cookies
I know a lot of people are iffy about coconut in baked goods, but it really helps to add a great chewy texture to these cookies!

IMG_1979

Baked Macaroni with Tomato Sauce and Goat Cheese
Every time I crave macaroni these days, I’m actually craving this dish.  The goat cheese somehow transforms this baked pasta dish into something magical.

IMG_1758

Butternut, Carrot and Goat Cheese Tartlets
These tartlets were just pure magic. They take a lot of time to make…but they are worth it. So worth it.

IMG_2360

Black-Eyed Pea Cakes with Collard Greens
These black-eyed pea cakes from Cooking Light have all the best of southern flavor without all the calories!

IMG_2686

Warm Fava Shallot Barley Salad
I love it when salads are big on flavor and texture and low on leaves. This warm fava shallot barley salad had the perfect amounts of both.

IMG_2800

White Balsamic Custard Tart with Fresh Berry Topping
I made this tart for the 4th of July and it was a huge hit with my family. Plus it’s just so damn pretty.

IMG_2977

Masa Crepes with Chard, Chile, and Cilantro
Are we all as shocked as I am that I managed to make crepes, of all things, without having a panic attack? These savory crepes seem intimidating but they were SO easy to work with and the chard, chile and cilantro filling was seriously addictive.

IMG_3165

Chocolate Cupcakes with Basil Buttercream
This was my favorite crazy combination cupcake of 2012. The basil buttercream may seem a little weird but it really does pair perfectly with the chocolate cupcakes!

IMG_3467

Tomato, Squash and Red Pepper Gratin
If you’re looking for a dish that tastes like summer – this is it.

IMG_3071

Carrot Cake Ice Cream
I finally started using my ice cream maker this year and this was definitely my favorite ice cream that cake out of my kitchen!  Cheesecake ice cream with a brown sugar carrots swirled in.

IMG_3629

Beer, Been and Cotija-Stuffed Poblanos
These stuffed poblanos were big on spice and flavor, which is just the thing that I am constantly craving!

IMG_3793

Peanut Butter Cup Cheesecake Cupcakes
These were the last things I baked before my dad got sick, so I like to think there is something special about them.  Plus, peanut butter cups baked into mini cheesecakes? Can’t go wrong.

IMG_4102

Lasagna Soup
The.Boy. has proclaimed this as his favorite thing that I have ever made for him.  And yes, it does contain fake meat.

IMG_4249

Banana Cake with Mocha Frosting and Salted Candied Peanuts
Every component of this cake is absolutely amazing! A must-make for 2013.

IMG_4828

Sweet Potato and Black Bean Tacos with Swiss Chard Pesto
The sweet potato and black bean combo is one that I’ve utilized before but the swiss chard pesto and the queso fresco definitely ties these all together.

IMG_4520

Whole Wheat Carrot Gnocchi with Peas, Butternut Squash and Ricotta
These carrot gnocchi were pillows of gnocchi perfection!  And way easier to make than you would think.

IMG_4957

Greek Yogurt Cheesecake with Pomegranate Syrup
This is the ultimate holiday dessert…or really anytime dessert given how protein and antioxidant rich it is!

IMG_4992

Apple, Leek and Gruyere Grilled Cheese
Of course I had to give some love to this grilled cheese! I may have created it just a few weeks ago but it was instant love.
