I know, there were best-laid plans to book it out of work at five so that you could rush home and shove your hands into some pizza dough, allowing it to rise for two hours and head into the oven almost exactly at the very second when your boyfriend/husband/significant other walked in the door and wouldn’t that just be so adorably Betty Draper of you? (at least in seasons 1 through 2…I make no promises about anything after that because we are so behind on life, at least as it pertains to Mad Men viewing).

But you know what they say about those and all of a sudden it’s 6:30, you’ve just walked in the door, and you’ve barely even begun to think about from whence this dough is going to arise, let alone what is going to go on it.

As your heart starts to race and the hyperventilation that comes with “what’s for dinner” angst and agitation sets in, I implore you.

And let me ask you this. What if I told you I have a recipe that could get that pizza on your table in a half hour (or less), homemade dough and all?

Sounds crazy but with Fleischmann’s Pizza Crust yeast it is totally doable and totally delicious.

Not only do doughs made with this yeast have NO RISE TIME, but it is specially formulated with dough relaxers so that you won’t have to spend twenty minutes rolling it to the size you want just to have it snap back into a tiny ball….it will {pretty miraculously} keep whatever shape you give it. No shrinkage here!

So really, the most time consuming part of this whole pizza process is choosing the toppings. And even that doesn’t need to be a time-sucking ordeal. All you need to do is take whatever veggies you have in the fridge (I had a bell pepper and cherry tomatoes), toss them with olive oil, salt, and chipotle chili powder and throw them on top of your (firmly in place) dough, along with a layer of cheese. Throw it all in the oven for 15 minutes and bam. Dinner is done.

I accept thank yous in the form of hugs and leftovers. Just saying.

No-Rise Thick Crust Pizza Dough
Makes enough for 1 pizza, adapted from Fleischmann’s 

Ingredients

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 425.
  2. In the bowl of a stand mixer fitted with the bread hook attachment, combine 2 cups flour, yeast, sugar and salt. Add in the water and olive oil and combine until well blended, scraping down the sides as necessary, about 1 minute. Add in enough flour so that the dough forms a ball and no longer sticks to the sides of the mixer after 30 seconds of mixing. Mix on medium-high speed for 4 minutes to knead.
  3. Pat the dough down with floured hands to fill a greased pan or baking sheet. Form a rim by pinching the sides of the dough.
  4. If your toppings are especially wet (like a sauce), pre-bake for 10 minutes. Then add your toppings and continue baking until cheese is bubbling and crust is brown. Otherwise, just add your toppings and bake until cheese is bubbling and crust is brown (that was 15 minutes for me).

Chipotle-Roasted Pepper and Tomato Pizza
Serves 4, an Eats Well With Others Original

Ingredients

  • 1 recipe pizza dough
  • 1 green bell pepper, cut into thin strips
  • 1 pint cherry tomatoes, halved
  • 2 tbsp olive oil
  • 1 tsp chipotle chili powder
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 6 oz sharp cheddar cheese, grated

Instructions

  1. Toss the bell pepper, cherry tomatoes, olive oil, chipotle chili powder, and salt together in a bowl. Season to taste.
  2. Top the pizza dough with the cheddar cheese. Scatter the bell pepper strips and tomatoes over the cheese.
  3. Bake for 15-20 minutes or until the bottom of the crust is starting to brown.

  1. Fantastic! We looove homemade pizza and make it every couple weeks. I usually buy Whole Foods dough, but I love this idea of using the Fleischmann’s pizza crust yeast! Your amazing looking pizza is making me want to do homemade pizza night tonight….

    sounds like a lovely pizza topping – I tend to use a quick rise pizza dough recipe which is the only reason I make pizza so much – I don’t think I could organise myself to wait hours for dough to rise

    Well, I am VERY picky about my pizza dough, and use the same recipe every time.

    I normally make the dough in the morning and stick it in the fridge the whole day, then let it warm as I heat the grill and make the toppings

    However, per your post, I will keep an eye for the pizza crust yeast – you got me curious.

  9. I bought their pizza crust yeast once but I still let it rise for about 30 minutes because I was nervous not to haha. I’ll have to go ahead and use another package without rise time. Which is perfect because I’ve been meaning to make pizza too but never leave the lab/gym early enough to do so on weekdays!

    I like the idea of quick pizza dough!!The combination of peppers, tomatoes and cheese is pretty appealing to. Who says something with a face needs to be included to have something delicious.

    Oh my gosh, this is so totally me! Yesterday my 1 hr meeting ended up being three hours, and the sous-vide dish I was planning to make was toast – except that Peter came to rescue and started it for me. Anything to help me with last minute dinners is a plus, and with grilled pizzas coming up on the menu more frequently, this pizza is perfect! Great recipe, as always, Joanne!

    More types of yeast to stock up on?! Oh no!! Haha! This looks awesome. I love all sorts of pizza toppings, but Dino likes to keep it simple. Just cheese or pepperoni. I’m all, “let’s throw tons of veggies on it!!!”… but if I’m the one cooking said pizza, he’ll just have to deal with it, right? ;)

    You must work in your kitchen like Jamie Oliver – churning things out at a hurtling speed. How great to know you can make a fabulous-looking pizza in less than 30 minutes. I’m a Mad Men fan too although I do seem to be a couple of seasons behind. I think I’m going to hire the last two seasons and spend a weekend gorging on pizza while watching episode after episode xx

  38. No rise time?! That’s pretty awesome and worth a try. It’s not like super active yeast isn’t fast enough, but to really make a 30 minute meal out of homemade pizza dough is a treat.

    the pizza looks great. But what exactly are “dough enhancers”? they sounds like a bunch of chemicals whose names I can’t pronounce and certainly don’t want to be ingesting. please tell me it isn’t so …..

      Hi Anonymous! I checked out the ingredient list and the only two ingredients that differ from regular yeast are ascorbic acid (vitamin C) and L-cysteine which is an amino acid that we normally have in all of the proteins in our body…both totally normal!

    What a pretty pizza! I’m giving that yeast a try right away. I love making pizza dough. There’s just something so therapeutic about it. I also really need to start watching Mad Men. My boss says that he wants to have us watch it on break at work. Haha.
