SPRINKLE PARTY

1. Sprinkles = instant happy.

2. Which is perfect because I have some SUPER happy news I want to share with you – I was chosen to be on the 2014 Cabot Fit Team! I applied to be on it last summer and didn’t make it, but apparently second time’s a charm. I am SO excited to run with such an awesome group of ladies in May AND to celebrate one of my favorite food groups – CHEESE. Oh, cheese isn’t a food group, you say? PROVE IT. Over the next few weeks I hope to share my training experience/fitness tips/running nutrition tips/healthy inspiration with you guys, if this is something you’d be into. Thoughts?

3. Sprinkles also = perfect stress eating food. Like, the night before you have a meeting with your thesis committee about your PhD progress and your boss keeps hinting that getting a Masters instead really isn’t so bad. I mean, I know he’s kidding but still. NOT okay.

4. My secret plan? Putting my committee into a sugar/butter coma while I lecture them on insulin signaling and diabetes. Oh, the irony.

5. Speaking of my boss, the words “you should twitter that” came out of his mouth yesterday. I can’t even.

6. The.Boy and I are eighty trillion years old and hate crowds and overpriced food so we are staying in on V-Day. Which means I have to(/want to) cook. Which means I have to figure out what one can cook after a full week of work that is deliciously appropriate and doesn’t require full use of one’s brain cells. At this rate, we’ll be having grilled cheese.

7. Have I mentioned that it’s my birthday month? And ALL THE STORES keep sending me coupons. And by ALL THE STORES, I mean the only store that matters which is Anthropologie. I feel like these would be the most impractical baking pans ever. But I want them. And this. And this.

8. This Olympic “sport” that requires you to ski, then shoot at things, then ski some more. I don’t understand.

9. Public service announcement – you cannot bake the freezer burned flavor out of freezer burned frozen fries. In case you were wondering.

10. Sometimes I feel like my whole life should be lived according to the motto of WWLGD (What Would Lady Grantham Do). #downtonforlife.

  1. Congrats on making the Cabot team!! Fun! I’d do it for the cheese:-) Also, we are staying in Friday, too, and I still have no idea what we are cooking and what I am making for dessert!

  2. Barbara says:

Kudos on the Cabot Fit Team selection!!
Sprinkles just plain LOOK happy! The photo even made me smile. 🙂

  3. Yes, congrats on snagging a team spot! That’s amazing. I had no idea there was a team that cheese-sponsored running group. That’s two of my very favorite things in one.
We’re not going out for Valentines day either. If you ask me, it’s pretty much asking to be miserable. Just stay in and snuggle, that’s the best.

  4. Awesome about being on the Cabot Fit team! Would def like to hear more on that front 🙂
    Sprinkles ARE the best.
And we’re staying in for Valentine’s Day too 🙂

  5. Yay! Congrats on making Cabot team. And yes I’d be interested in some fitness/training updates 🙂
And omg life will be so much easier if we all followed lady gratham hehhe. Good luck at the committee meeting!! Mine is in a few weeks and I’m panicking already.

  6. Sarah says:

Loving #10! I just found out that I’m going to be moving to a town which is 45mins away from the actual Downton Abbey!!! I am going to spend all my weekends there and pretend that I am Lady Grantham 😀

  7. Susan says:

Congrats on making the team! Running for the cheese, it’s completely worth it! Also seeing that it’s your birthday, you absolutely get to treat yo self to some cut new things from Anthropologie.

  8. Congrats Joanne – awesome news! Can’t wait to hear your fitness tips/running nutrition tips. One of my boys is a runner. Happy Valentine’s Day no matter how you celebrate (and grilled cheese actually sounds like a great idea ;)).

  9. ha ha ha…Downton for Life! So fun, I love coffee talk 🙂 And yeah, Anthropologie is beyond dangerous for me. I just have to walk away…

  10. Megan says:

Happy birthday month! I am 100% behind you buying yourself fancy Anthropologie pans and cake stands!

  11. Sues says:

Congrats on Cabot… LOVE them!! And yes, sprinkles make everything happy!! 🙂

  12. Congrats on making Cabot Fit team – you go girl! Speaking of, I think some Cabot horseradish grilled cheese sammies on V day doesn’t sound half bad. And I would love to be able to come with half the zingers Lady Grantham says in real life.

  13. congrats on the Cabot team..I and the boyfriend are planning the same,,grilled cheese or next door Thai – TBD still.

  14. Cabot Fit Team?!?! Love it! I just spent like 20 minutes checking it out – it looks super cool! Also, we’re staying in for V-Day too…I actually prefer it! xx

  15. hehe I love your coffee talk posts.

I do not understand that Olympic sport either. But do you know what I DO understand?? Did you see Victor Pleshenko’s strip skate dance to Sex Bomb? OMG google it. You’re welcome. Watch it all the way through, it just keeps getting better and better.

And finally, most importantly. NOTHING ABOUT GRAD SCHOOL IS EASY. OMG I want to hit that guy that acts like it’s no big deal. Grad school eats your soul and crawls in your heart and brain and won’t let go. It’s like every spare moment has to be spent focusing on the degree, or you’re riddled with guilt. Complain to me anytime. I was a happy, carefree person before grad school. Now, I’m a skeptic who doesn’t trust things that seem too good to be true. It changed me, yo.

  16. Congrats on making the Cabot fit team! That’s so exciting!

  17. Meg says:

Just looking at sprinkles is definitely an instant happy-making thing! And yeah, the Olympic sport that involves skiing and shooting and whatnot is super strange but also cool to me. I mean, I don’t shoot anything, but I admire the skill that requires! Plus, I watch the whole thing while eating ice cream on my couch, so.

  18. Yay! Congrats on getting chosen for the Cabot Fit Team!!! Now, excuse while I go eat some cheese in your honor.

  19. Love these posts! Congrats on being on the cabot team! Those baking pans from anthro are super cute!

  20. Abby says:

I seriously hope you’re following Lady Grantham on twitter, it’s amazing. And those Poppy Pie things from Anthro!! le sigh.

  21. So happy to meet about #CabotFit chick. It’s going to be awesome!

And feel free to lull me into a sugar comma anytime. I’m all about it.

  22. Erica says:

Congratulationss on making the Cabot team!It sounds wonderful,Joanne!

  23. cheri says:

Congrats are in order. Also love the Anthropologie kitchen stuff especially the pie dish.

  24. Love this series, Jo! I hate overpriced food to. I can’t see what you whip up, something fabulous—I just know it. Even if it is grilled cheese, it’ll be the best one I’ll ever have seen!!

  25. too* …apparently, I need to revitalize these brain cells too, LOL!

  26. Pam says:

I love Lady Grantham ~ Downton was GREAT this week. I really like the baking dishes – you should totally get them. Congrats on making the Cabot Fit Team.

  27. Lynn says:

Congrats on getting on that team!

  28. Trisha says:

Ah, can’t wait to see all the great recipes involving CHEESE. Also, I want to live WWLGD. She is so feisty and smart–LOVE her!

  29. Yay for your birthday month! And double yay for anthropologie coupons 🙂 I am obsessed with anthropologie. In fact, confession, I signed up for a different month that my birthday actually was to get a coupon…and I already used it! Haha but now when my birthday comes … 🙁

  30. I don’t eat enough sprinkles! Happy birthday month!

  31. Teffy says:

    Happy Birthday Month!
Also, I haven’t eaten sprinkles in waaay too long. Brings back childhood dreams.

    {Teffy’s Perks} X

  32. congrats on the cabot fit team! woohoo!

  33. Kate says:

My husband was just complaining that he misses that ski/shooting event every year.

  34. I can’t say biathlon is the most exciting sport to watch but you have to appreciate their athleticism. To be able to get your heart rate down enough to shoot calmly, right after you have brought it up to insanely high levels skiing is pretty impressive.

  35. Joyti says:

Well, by your logical, I’m about eight trillion years old too – I’d rather stay in and cook on V-day too. Not that that’s an issue for me.

I haven’t gotten an Anthropologie coupon. I’d love one 🙁

  36. christina says:

Cheese is a food group 🙂 and I will be stalking your recipes tonight, as I am cooking for a girls vday dinner celebration..

  37. Sprinkles = happiness indeed! One look at them and the world looks a bit happier right away!

  38. We are staying in and cooking (together) for V Day this year too. I hate overpaying and having bad service b/c restaurants are too crowded. I would rather explore a new restaurant on a random weeknight than fight the masses.

  39. Congrats on the Cabot Fit Team!!! That is so awesome and I’m sure you will figure out something deluxe for valentine’s day to make!

  40. I love reading this on Wednesday. Congratulations on Cabot Fit Team!

  41. I also watched part of the ski and shoot. Must be some ancient war thing. Good luck with the thesis committee 🙂

  42. Congrats Joanne – thats awesome you made the cabot team!
Sprinkles and something sweet – preferably with chocolate – have magical feel good powers! 🙂

  43. Wait. Cheese isn’t a food group? Who says that? And total congrats! Clearly they’ve regretted their decision all year and didn’t want to make the same mistake again!

  44. Hotly Spiced says:

It sounds like you’re having a very full week. My sister was doing a masters but had hers upgraded to a PhD! It was in Psychology. There is so much about the Winter Olympics I just don’t understand. Maybe it’s because we just don’t have a winter like it – no ice, no snow = none of those sports. My sister who used to live in NYC but is now crying her eyes out in LA, always shops at Anthropology – love it when she buys me something! Congrats on making it into that very select group xx

  45. sandra says:

congratulations! healthy inspirations are always welcome.
I love your butter/sugar induced coma plan – I love the irony.
ever since I saw a marvelous anthropolgie rabbit bowl on A Cozy Kitchen I have been perusing their crockery. they have such great stuff! I had no idea they had such an extensive selection… thought they were a clothing store… showing my age??
    happy birthday.

  46. Happy birthday month! I am also a gazillion years old and prefer to avoid crowds at all costs. Also bad service which seems to come with eating out on any and every holiday. I do love the skiing/shooting sport though. In fact, I’m watching it right now.

  47. Shannon says:

awesome, congrats on the cabot team!!

  48. Reeni says:

Congrats on the Cabot Fit Team! That is great news! I love that we share a birthday month!

  49. Kelsey says:

Congrats on making the Cabot team! You should be so proud! Cabot, student, blogger extraordinaire, and wedding planner–you’re basically Super Woman!

  50. I’ve never heard of the Cabot Fit Team, but it sounds awesome! Congrats!! I personally think that staying in on V-day is way better- cheaper and less crowded, with probably better food! I’m so with you guys on that. Also, I hate freezer burn…bleh.

  51. So glad you got in on the Cabot team!

  52. Deborah says:

Congrats on making the Cabot Fit Team!! Yay! And yes – WWLGD – totally living by that now!!

  53. Congrats on making the 2014 Cabot Fit Team! And I love love love sprinkles. And I’m still dying of laughter at #9. I have tried to remove the taste of burned homemade chocolate in the freezer and gave up a month ago after realising it STILL tasted terrible.

  54. Congrats on making the team! That’s wonderful! And uh… a Valentine’s Day dinner of grilled cheese sounds absolutely fabulous to me 🙂

  55. Johanna GGG says:

I think a woman would do well to arm herself with sprinkles and lady grantham’s wit – hope thesis meeting went well
