If you’re in the mood for some warmly spiced, crazy good for you comfort food then head on over to Marcus Samuelsson’s blog to check out my post on this Root Veggie Tagine!

An Edible Mosaic: Middle Eastern Flair with Extroardinary Flair – Review and GIVEAWAY!!

I have been reading Faith’s blog for years now, so when she asked me if I would review her new cookbook, it was a no-brainer – a resounding YES!!!  And then when Brandy offered me the opportunity to take part in a Mid-East Feast to celebrate the cookbook’s release…I was wholeheartedly ALL IN.

Even though I knew I would really like Faith’s book, as I am generally a fan of Middle Eastern food, I had no idea how much I would love it.  Faith’s appreciation of a culture and a cuisine that is not her own really shines through in this book.  So much so, that you can’t help but get excited about each and every recipe, as she recounts where she first ate it, how it is traditionally prepared, and why she likes it so much.  The book is full of personal tidbits like this, along with large, gorgeous photos and, of course…delicious recipes.

As part of the Mid-East Feast, we made the zucchini fritters, chicken tofu shawarma wraps, and the coconut semolina cake.  And in case you couldn’t tell how much I gushed over everything in my posts…I enjoyed all of it.  There are countless other recipes in the cookbook that I can’t wait to try, such as the mashed fava beans with olive oil, lemon juice and garlic, flatbreads, spinach turnovers, fried cauliflower with sesame parsley sauce, eggs poached in spicy tomato sauce, rose and pistachio pudding, toasted semolina pudding with cinnamon…and oh so many more.

Fabulously enough, the publishers of An Edible Mosaic have offered to give away a copy of Faith’s cookbook to one of YOU!!!  The company WILL ship internationally, so this is open to my international readers.  All you have to do is leave a comment on this post telling me what your favorite ethnic cuisine is.

For extra entries, pin or tweet whichever of the recipes we made for our Mid-East Feast (linked above) you would most want to try.  Leave a comment telling me when you do so.

This giveaway will end on November 20th!!

For more ways to enter, check out the giveaways being hosted on these other participating blogs:

Brandy – Nutmeg Nanny
Amanda – Fake Ginger
Heather – Girlichef

  1. How to choose? Well, I think I have to go with Japanese because I am a little sushi obsessed.

  2. Kim says:

I think I lean more towards Italian and Mediterranean cuisine, but ask me next week and my answer would probably be completely different. Ha!

I’d LOVE a copy of this book!

  3. Miss Migas says:

Wow! great that it is open to international readers… I love japanese food like Brian but Indian is my most beloved =)

I’d love to win this contest. My favorite ethnic cuisine? Probably Moroccan, but I love trying anything new. Congratulations to Faith!

  6. Candy says:

Since I decided to become a vegetarian last year I found that Indian cuisine is my favourite. It’s versatile; I can adapt meat recipes by replacing with veggies and I am in love with the flavours of the spices!

  7. Anne says:

SO hard to decide! I’d have to say Mexican or Greek – I just don’t get tired of cooking either of them!

The zucchini fritters sound amazing – I’ll have to give them a try!

  8. Tricia says:

The cookbook sounds wonderful. My favorite ethnic cuisine is Indian – so many (tasty!) vegetarian options!

  9. Shannon says:

I love so many different types of cuisines, but if I had to pick a favorite today, it would be be a close tie between Middle Eastern and Indian. I go back and forth between which two I like more on any given day!

  13. Jenn Kendall says:

that tagine looks wonderful! it is so hard to saw what my favorite cuisine is – depends on my mood!

  14. Erica Berman says:

I have many favorite cuisines, but I’d rank Middle Eastern right up there. I love the balance of sweet and savoury and pretty much any dish that uses dried fruit. Having a new cook book to guide my further knowledge and exploration of Middle Eastern cuisine would be amazing!

  15. Stephanie says:

I love many international cuisines, I think Indian is my favourite though. I would like to try the coconut semolina cake especially. Would love a copy of the cookbook!

  17. sandra says:

My favorite is probably Mexican, even though they are heavy on the cheese. I am also a big fan of North African. The surprising blend of spices is what gets me every time.

  18. I am definitely a sucker for spicy Indian curries. It may be a fad, but I’m wholeheartedly in.

  19. cquek says:

    This looks simply mouthwatering …delicious!

  20. Anonymous says:

Iranian food is by far the best. Jewjeh kebabs, gooshteh frerengi, tomatoes, and how much delicious rose water is incorporated?! DELICIOUS!

  21. Picking my favorite ethnic cuisine is HARD! sushi’s up there, as is any kind of pumpkin curry – and i LOVE falafel.

  22. VanessaC says:

My favorite ethnic cuisine is “anything from the Iberian peninsula”.
But my new favorite weeknight meal is the Zucchini Fritters from Faith’s book that you posted a couple of weeks back. (I confess I’ve only ever made them with yellow squash, and once when I was short on yellow squash I added in some shredded sweet potato). They are terrific. And easy. And incredibly good with Greek yogurt and a tomato salsa. (And extremely popular with all the eaters in the household.) Seriously, I’ve made them 5 times. And I’m a restless cook; I almost never make anything more than once or twice.

  23. Nicole says:

My favorite ethnic cuisine is mediterranean!

  24. Julia says:

I love many cuisines but right now my favorite is Southern American, especially Peruvian. Have you ever tried Ceviche? It’s great!

  25. cindspectus says:

Oh my goodness, this is a tough question. I’d say Italian, but being part Italian this seems like a copout, so I’m going to go with Indian food. I didn’t discover Indian food until a few years ago, but I’m so glad I did! So many great flavors and vegetarian options, I think it’s nearly tied with Italian in my out-to-eat rotation.

  26. I probably cook more Italian dishes but I love all ethnic cuisines.

  27. Debbie says:

My favorite ethnic cuisine would be Greek. I would say Italian but I am Italian so I don’t think that would count!!!! I am still wanting to try the coconut semolina cake. I know must husband would love it since he is crazy for all things coconut!!!!

  28. Jessie says:

Isn’t Faith awesome? 🙂 I would say my favorite ethnic cuisine is Chinese (not exactly stretching my boundaries here 😛 ).

  29. Jessie says:

Also, I pinned the Coconut Semolina Cake because dang. That is one delicious dessert.

  30. Sara says:

Hard to pick my favorite ethnic cuisine, but I think I’d have to go with Thai!

  31. Guru Uru says:

Hmmm ethnic cuisine… I would have to say Turkish, there is soemthing so intriguing about its flavours 😀
And of course it has turkish delight 😀

    Cheers
    CCU

  32. Shannon says:

probably mexican 🙂 although more because i like using their base for playing with my food!

  33. I couldn’t agree more Joanne – I love Faith’s book so much too! I love that they are doing an international give-away, very cool 🙂

  34. I love tagine and a vegetarian version would be amazing!

  35. Juliana says:

Like you I love Faith’s blog.
This roots tangine looks fabulous…and perfect for the season Joanne.
    Have a great week 🙂

  36. By far my favourite ethnic cuisine IS Middle Eastern! I have been cooking/preparing Lebanese food for about a decade now (which stems from having dated a Lebanese guy in my youth and spending time in the kitchen with his stepmother who was an excellent cook). It’s total comfort food for me!

  37. Hotly Spiced says:

I do love Middle Eastern cuisine and I do cook often with those flavours but if I’m to be honest I would have to say my favourite cuisine is Thai xx

  38. What a great way to prepare root veggies…I’m doing some for Thanksgiving and your post has got me thinking… =) I hope you’re having a great week, JO!

  39. What a lovely tagine, Joanne. I like ME food, too, but I think my favourite is now Indian!

  40. Christine says:

This is a tough one, since I like almost every cuisine. If it has to be ethnic (so I don’t think Italian counts), I’d have to say Indian. Have loved curries since the first one I made years ago. It’s the one spicy food I can eat. Plus it can easily be incorporated into most foods. Although I do love some Arab dishes like tabouli and lots of Greek dishes. See what I mean? Tough choice.

  41. I’m so excited to get my copy!

  42. Picking a favorite ethnic cuisine is definitely hard, as I like (or love) many of them. Mexican and Greek are right up there though, I would say Mexican would be my favorite. I was just at Faith’s website and the cookbook looks to be a great success!

  43. That Girl says:

I’m a huge fan of Thai cuisine, but I rarely make it at home. It’s like a “going out to eat” treat.

  44. JT says:

oof I’m Japanese so I love home-cooked Japanese food, but don’t consider it “ethnic” for me… so I’m gonna say Turkish! Is that “ethnic”? Anything with Mediterranean flavors always win over my heart though 🙂

  46. Tandy says:

The poached eggs is one of my favourites! I also want to try the fava been recipe. Have a great day 🙂

  47. Sooooooo hard to choose a cuisine I like best, because I love so many. Mexican maybe? The root vegetable tagine looks delicious! 🙂

  48. That is a tough question. I really love Hong Kong food and Cajun food.

  49. sophia says:

This is awesome. I’m so happy for Faith. I got the email too, but unfortunately couldn’t make a promise because of time constraints.

My favorite cuisine differs by the day, but these days, it’s Mexican!

  50. Delicious food blog! I’ve found lots of yummy recipes here..feeling quite hungry now 🙂

  51. That tagine is filled with such awesome goodies! Heading over to check out the recipe!

Oh and thanks for hosting such an awesome giveaway! My favorite ethnic cuisine has to be Japanese. I’m addicted to sushi 🙂

  52. Lynn says:

    That tagine looks delish. Yummmm.

I am a fan of Turkish food now, since there is an in-law who is Turkish.

  53. Barbara says:

So exciting about Faith’s book. I’m posting a recipe on the 9th. I’d love to win her book…it’s going to be a smash hit.
This looks marvelous, Joanne. Love root veggies. I wish I had a tagine….maybe after I move. I was looking at one just yesterday!
I think my fave ethnic food is Japanese.

  54. sarah perry says:

I think my favorite would be Ethiopian cuisine. Though I do adore the Thai coconut and lemongrass mix….

  55. Cara says:

I’d love to win a copy! It’s hard for me to pick a favorite cuisine… but I have to say I never once got sick of the food in Israeli and could happily eat falafel and shawarma every day 🙂

  56. Cara says:

pinned the shawarma – can’t wait to try it!

  57. Katerina says:

I can’t wait to get my hands on this book Joanne! It looks super delicious!

I love Indian, and Thai – such great spices to incorporate in my cooking!

  59. grace says:

i really like pretty much all mediterranean cuisine, but i have to confess that mexican food is my favorite. it’s a source of comfort. 🙂

That’s a tough choice, but I’d say my favorite ethnic food is Ethiopian, a stewed beet carrot and potato dish called Key Sir Alicha.

  62. Natalie says:

I can’t even choose just one…love ethiopian, love greek, love india…love them all!

  63. Karen says:

    [email protected]

  64. Katie says:

I just love Mexican food! I can’t help it!

  65. Jessen says:

I love Middle Eastern (Arabic) food, but that’s because I was Raised on it. But, if I had to choose another, I’d go for Thai Food. Cuban Would be my Next Choice!

  66. Rachel says:

Hmmm, my favorite ethnic cuisine? That’s a very tough question. My first thought was Ethiopian so I’d better stick with that. This cookbook looks wonderful!

  67. Rachel says:

I pinned and tweeted this recipe and the saffron rice from Cake Duchess. Yum!

  68. emily says:

Japanese! I’m a big fan of fish and enjoy how incredibly fresh and relatively healthy Japanese cuisine can be.

My favourite ethnic cuisine is carribean! Great savoury dishes, and desserts.

  70. Amanda Thompson says:

That’s a tough question because I’m a Gemini, so I have lots of “favorites”…so this week I choose Mexican!

    adb6{at}humboldt{dot}edu

  71. Kristin says:

I guess I’d pick Japanese or Chinese because I don’t think Tex-Mex counts! haha!

  72. Saguna says:

Your tagine looks amazing. And this is totally like asking me to choose my favourite child. Okay, no, er, I don’t actually know what that would be like but, Indian. I kind of have to… being partly Indian and all and just having had naan bread with dal. Second favourite would definitely be Middle Eastern. This book looks amazing. Wonder where I can find it in the UK…. I’ll be on the lookout.

  73. My favorite ethnic cuisine would be Indian

  74. Yvonne says:

For me it has to be the Spanish cuisine: I never get tired of it.

  75. MonsterAteMy says:

This week my favorite is Thai!
