sari

1. Choosing the perfect sari for your best friend’s wedding is like finding a needle in a haystack (see above photo). Thankfully, Anu’s mother is a wise woman who advised us to just get two. Such an enabler. I love it.

2. Also, saris are COMPLICATED. Between the blouse and the petticoat and ALL THE SAFETY PINS…I’m going to need someone to follow me around the whole night to make sure I stay tucked in in all the right places. Especially because I have a feeling the.boy’s goal is going to be to untuck me in all the wrong places.

3. But who is going to come to NYC before the Big Day and give me lessons on how to pee while sari-wearing?! You will be my savior.

4. Other things I did this weekend? Saw the new Captain America movie and got officially hooked on the whole Avengers series. There’s something really compelling about a team of secret superheroes who are constantly saving the world from imminent apocalypse.

5. I want to hear your favorite ways to consume strawberries. Other than just sitting home alone on a Thursday night and consuming an entire pound by yourself. Because, that happened. It was not my finest moment.

6. After taking all of last week off from exercise so that I could cure myself of my wheezing cough (it worked), I am craving a good sweat like there’s no tomorrow. Getting on the elliptical yesterday felt like a breath of fresh air. Sweaty smelly fresh air…but fresh air nonetheless.

7. Now I just need to get ready to run another half marathon in two weeks. And then another one the week after that. And take our engagement photos somewhere in-between.

8. May is eating me alive.

9. This man is my hero.

10. Although that kind of reminds me of the time the.boy and I went for a wedding cake tasting at Baked and legitimately tried to eat all twelve cupcakes that they served us. It was not pretty.

I recently went to an Indian wedding and the saris the ladies wore were just incredible! The colors, the fabrics – I can see why you would have trouble deciding. Buying two is a good idea. : ) It’s going to be a fun wedding.

  2. Saris are so pretty!!! But yeah I bet they’re complicated! Love the Avengers franchise, haven’t seen the new Cap yet. Chocolate covered strawberries are amazing, obvi 😛 aaaaand omg I’m jealous that you tasted cake flavors at BAKED!

  3. I want to see which saris you picked!!

  4. Lately we have been buying strawberries and enjoying them in plain greek yogurt with a drizzle of maple syrup and a dash of cinnamon…can’t get enough! Simple but delicious. That, and just popping them in my mouth one by one like they’re m&m’s.

  5. Simply Life says:

you’ll have to show us pictures of which saris you chose!

  6. OMG, that donut adventure was probably the best thing I’ve ever read. Also, totally drooling over all of those donuts. Not only do we not get fancy things like that in the middle of no where, I’d have to drive literally 40 miles to find 12 donut places, and that’s if I include grocery store bakery donuts, which really I shouldnt, and chain donuts. If not, probably more like 100 miles. Ughhh.

  7. Trisha says:

Wearing a sari seems like so much fun! And they’re loose and fabricy and I feel like they look flattering on everyone. The bright colors are amazing! Would also love to see photos!

  8. Simone says:

Would love to see which Sari you choose, they’re so pretty 🙂 Good luck with the pee’ing situation haha, maybe a Shewee will come in handy! Also LOVED reading about the Donut Crawl, the guy is hilarious!

  9. P says:

Wish I could help ya with #3 but I have yet to wear a sari myself! Have always been stuck wearing pavadais as a kid, and then salwars as a teen/young adult. I will have the opportunity to wear a ghagra choli very soon though 😀

  10. Ray says:

3 words-ready made sari. It is a lifesavor!

  11. Hooray for The Avengers! I’m a HUGE fan of Joss Whedon, so any project he does I’m pretty much on board. Also, strawberries piled on top of ice cream with a little bit of chocolate sauce. That’s the way to go.

  12. I would love to see what sari you chose, I bet it’s gorgeous!

  13. SallyBR says:

Never had to wear a sari, always wanted to… I hope you will post photos, plenty of photos, from several angles, including the dangerous ones

I shall live vicariously through you

One week without exercise. That is torture. I can imagine how great you felt once you were back to it

  14. cheri says:

When picking out a saris is there a certain color you have to wear for the wedding or can you pick any color you want? either way, sounds like it is going to be a lot of fun. I love roasted strawberries on ice cream, also just good ole fresh right out of the basket.

  15. Fun fact, I’m superheroes obsessed. Last week I saw Captain America twice and the new spiderman. Cannot wait for X-men!!!!

  16. Meg says:

I have no occasion for buying a sari, but I think they’re gorgeous — and I’m envious! I’m sure the ones you selected are lovely!

As far as strawberries go, I’m a big fan of just tossing a bunch of them in a bowl with some from-a-bottle whipped cream and going to town. I can’t help it! They’re just so tasty. And still really healthy that way.

  17. I LOVE to have strawberries in my salad with a fig balsamic drizzle- YUM and some goat cheese! I always wanted to go to an Indian wedding!! OMG sooooooo exciting! Please post pics of you in the sari!!

  18. …okay just dont drink anything and make sure you do your bathroom business prior to the event. saree looks pretty but its dang annoying..and please send me some of your running energy because i want to run a half this year but do not see it happening.

  19. Heather says:

I love how beautiful saris are, but have never gotten to wear one. Also… I am now craving a doughnut.

  20. Monique says:

i have actually never seen the first captain America but I LOVED the 2nd movie.
I love dipping strawberries in champagne. or some fresh whipped cream and cinnamon. I haven’t enjoyed a fresh strawberry in forever because my teeth are sooo sensitive to the cold!

  21. elizabeth e says:

so many half marathons! so exciting.

a sari is complicated — an indian colleague brought me one, and i had to watch like 419283 youtube videos to get it even halfway on correctly.

  22. Saris are so beautiful but why do they have to be so complicated?!
Strawberries – well, you can make an Eton Mess which is divine. I also like cutting them up and mixing with blueberries and a dollop of thick cream OR chocolate pudding. Probably not great to do the night before you are running a marathon though.

I like your Coffee Talk posts!

  23. Shashi says:

12 donuts from 12 different shops in ONE morning??!???!??!!GAHHHHH! I would have tried to eat ALL the 12 cupcakes too, as long as it was at ONE shop 🙂
I adore strawberries with whipped cream – or vanilla frozen yogurt! Good luck with your upcoming half marathons – you are rocking the running girl!

  24. Love your coffee talk series 🙂 I totally eat the whole box of strawberries when i buy it…esp when they’re so good. Who can blame you?!

  25. sandra says:

a pound of strawberries, could have been worse… much worse.

I also wore a sari for a friend’s wedding and cannot remember having trouble peeing… but my memory is not what it used to be.

I have tasted all three doughnut shops in Brooklyn. I need to get cracking on the ones in the City.

  26. Strawberries. Although Madeline could easily eat her weight in them, they’re not my thing. When she’s not eating fast enough (like, um, yesterday), we make Strawberry Bread. Stupid simple, mix all the things, recipe, it makes two loaves. Which we just did last night. One to keep and one to share. Although I’m going to share half of the one we’re keeping too, because while I don’t like strawberries, the bread is another story. The loaf that came in to work this morning? Demolished by my co-workers before lunch.

  27. eating a whole pound of strawberries is totally acceptable! better than a whole box of chocolates 🙂

  28. Kate says:

I love that our Mays are similar filled with the insanity of too many races.

  29. Good luck with another half marathon. Although the saris are complicated it still sounds quite fun to choose one!

  30. Katie says:

such beautiful fabrics, and I love the image of you at a cake sampling!

  31. Eileen says:

Strawberries! Besides in cocktails or straight out of the pint container, what about in a simple strawberry & basil salad? Or strawberries and basil and cream cheese on sourdough toast or baguette slices? Hold on, I think I have to go write another schmear recipe…

  32. Min says:

I can’t wait to see your gorgeous saris!! They are so gorgeous! In Korea we wear “hanbok” (you can google it if you’re curious), and at the end of the day, all I wanted to do was be naked haha. I’ve been consuming lots and lots of strawberries as well. Much more figure friendly than eating 12 cupcakes ;). I like to throw them into salads, smoothies, desserts…I hope they stay cheap for-ever!!

  33. That must have been so far to pick a sari! You’ll have to share a picture of yourself on the big day!

  34. Glad to hear the cough is gone. May is too beautiful to be experiencing a bad cough. I have never shopped for a sari. It sounds like fun. Glorious colors, silky textures, flowing lines. I will forget what you said about the safety pins. Lol. I love strawberry short cake. Either that dipped in sour cream and then brown sugar.

  35. Zainab says:

Oooo saris are fun!! I had to wear one for a wedding too and I wish I didn’t have to take them off. Oh and girl I love the Avengers series. The men are beautiful 🙂

  36. I think strawberries are best eaten fresh with cream. Glad you are feeling better 🙂

  37. Hotly Spiced says:

I don’t think I could master the sari. Apparently, depending on what region in Italy you from, there’s different ways of wearing them! I am clueless as to what to do with that length of material. Good luck with that! xx

  38. I think eating a pound of strawberries is better than eating an entire pound…cake by yourself. Yeah. THAT happened.

  39. Indian (I am assuming because of the sari) weddings are so cool! Everyone dresses up so beautifully and there are flowers everywhere and incense. Please post lots of pictures!

  40. I love my elliptical. What speed/resistance do you use? I’ve had mine for a year and still really have no idea what I’m doing except going as fast as I possibly can.

  41. Traditional Indian weddings are so beautiful – I can’t wait to see any photos you share!

  42. cannot wait to see those engagement photos!!!

  43. I actually think fresh strawberries are the best. Yes, I am enabling your approach 🙂

Sari wearing has always seemed super daunting to me! Please give us a tutorial after the day? (I know this doesn’t really help you out with said day…)

  44. Leah Davis says:

The tasting was my favorite part of wedding planning. My husband claims he doesn’t like desserts but then he LOVED the cake tasting. So fun that y’all are having cupcakes from Baked!! I bet they will be amazing!!

  45. Good luck with the sari. I am sure you will have a ton of fun at the wedding.

  46. Did you get the flat from OXO, too? Because.. ya. I made pie, and smoothies, and popsicles, lemonade, salad… and Trevor was in bliss the entire time.

  47. Reeni says:

All those beautiful saris! I would have a tough time deciding too! Can’t wait to see you in it.
