dorie

1. When you get to spend an evening with, oh, only one of the best bakers of our time. That.

2. Bonus that she is incredibly adorable, funny, and sweet. And has a slice ‘n’ bake cookie tip that I’m going to share with you this cookie season that is going to blow your mind.

3. Just started this book and so far am LOVING it. It’s fun and easy, but still has some real life issues in it. Perfect for packing procrastination.

4. No matter what channel I watch, commercials for Satisfaction are ALWAYS on. Does anyone actually watch it? Is it any good?

5. In other news, my addiction to reality television has been growing EVERY DAY and it may even be spreading to the.boy. I won’t even tell you how many hours of the Kardashians we watched this weekend.

6. Yes, I said “we”.

7. I might have had my first pumpkin beer of the season this Friday. Don’t hate me.

8. In my defense, PACKING.

9. Plus, I was eating yesterday’s cornmeal pancakes while I was drinking it, so I feel like that redeems me a little bit.

10. If I buy another six pack before the week is over, we can still be friends, right?

  1. So sad I missed you (and that event) last night:-( I’m so impressed that you already finished Goldfinch! I’ve been so slow to read it (though I think because I have the hardcover, not a kindle version).

  2. Marju says:

Wow, I wonder what would happen here if I suggested watching Kardashians 😀 You have to teach your tricks, lady!

  3. Wait, you met DORIE!?!?! Ahhhhhhhhh. And! I’ve been wanting to read the Vacationers too! It sounds awesome.

  4. Absolutely to the pumpkin beer! Go for it. I am missing it this fall…but I’m going to buy a few bottles to save so I can have them for November after the baby arrives. 🙂 Good luck with the final few days of packing before the move!

  5. Pumpkin beer season is basically just a race to try them ALL before they’re gone. So. You have to get an early start 😉

  6. Pumpkin beer is the bestest thing ever and I think packing is a more-than-good excuse for pulling out one or two bottles! 😀

  7. I just tossed a 6-pack of pumpkin beer in my cart yesterday. No shame! Thanks for the book rec 🙂

  8. An evening with Dorie is infinitely better than watching Days of Thunder. Because, omg, how do I get those 2.5 hours back? Dreadful!

  9. I am currently reading I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings by Maya Angelou. Thanks for the recs on the book. Pumpkin beer, I am so ready for it.

  10. Yayyyyy for pumpkin beer and soooo jealous of your OXO demo!

  11. daphne says:

    Dorie Greenspan?! Envious!
Pumpkin beer? That I want to try one day!

  12. Andrea says:

I have watched several episodes of “Satisfaction”. It was ok. But I stopped. Kinda got boring and too predictable. The star Matt Passmore was on a show I liked called The Glades so I gave it a shot.

Love pumpkin beer. It’ helps the packing go faster! But then again, there are usually consequences of drinking and packing. Good luck!

  13. SallyBR says:

I can forgive the pumpkin beer, but the Kardashians I am not sure. 😉

Looking forward to the juicy bits about how you got to bake with Dorie…. awesome!!!!!

  14. double date with the kardashians? We watch it too…

  15. Yup – I have caught a couple of episodes of Satisfaction – and I don’t get it – all the lying, cheating, manipulating, and secrets – yes, I know more drama makes for a good show – but this – phew – I dunno about…
WOA – what an evening you had!! I am so looking forward to that slice ‘n’ bake cookie tip!

  16. And Joanne my addiction to reality tv has tripled since this baby came. John won’t watch the kardashians but he will watch bachelor stuff with me haha.

  17. Pumpkin beer at least sounds healthy 🙂

  18. P says:

Lately, reality TV has been the only thing I watch…or at least keep on for background noise while I have dinner or something :p

  19. Isadora says:

So jealous of your pumpkin beer and the fact that you have a boy who will watch keeping up with the Kardashians with you! My husband told me that he didn’t want to be married to someone who watched that show, so now I watch it in secret 🙂

  20. Heather says:

Beer is a necessity for packing… and any kind of hard labor, for that matter. I’m also really curious about that cookie tip!!

  21. I LOVE The Vacationers! I also can’t stop watching the Kardashians.

  22. I am not sure if I had pumpkin beer. I know I have seen it. I will have to give it whirl.

  23. watching the Kardashians is my dirty secret. I hate to love it 😛

    and eeeeee so jealous!!!

  24. Oh pumpkin. I’m so not ready for Summer to leave but I do love me some pumpkin!

  25. oh my gawd, I love Dorie. . I met her at a conference in Seattle a couple years ago . . she’s adorable! and dude, I’ve never had pumpkin beer . . need to find this stat!!

  26. I see previews for Satisfaction all the time! Drives me crazy, especially when my kids walk into the room at the most risque moment. Packing stress and mess definitely calls for a few pumpkin beers 😀

  27. Sues says:

Amazing!!! Can’t wait to see the cookie recipe 🙂 And I’ll excuse you for your pumpkin beer drinking because it was SO close to September. My local liquor store has been trying to tempt me since July… JULY!!

  28. I have never had pumpkin beer, so am entirely unqualified to judge. Also, PACKING. You can get away with anything right now!

  29. Is there a jealous/fake-mad emoji? I would like to insert it here:

I saw tweets last night about that fabulous lady’s presentation and had one of those “it would be amazing to be there” moments – I live vicariously through the photo today I guess! 🙂

  30. Woot, pumpkin beer! I went to a bar last week, and they already had Pumking on tap. So I don’t think you’re early at all!

  31. Kate says:

What did you drink and was it any good? I’m so picky with my pumpkin beers. I had a Shipyard Smashing Pumpkin Ale last week that was only meh.

  32. Beth says:

Thumbs up to Dorie, but really – The Kardashians? We’ll blame it on packing fever.

  33. Kathy says:

Lucky you to meet Dorie! She is one of my favorite and nicest people…I met her last year at the Bloggers conference in Seattle. She was the keynote speaker, so a bunch of our French Fridays group went out to the conference so we could get to hear her speak…she spent a lot of time with us! A lovely talented lady!
    Have a great week!

  34. It was good to see you last night, Joanne! Good luck with the rest of the packing and the move. Get those dishes wrapped!

  35. Monica says:

Always find your coffee talks entertaining! And being able to watch Dorie live and in action would be so amazing…

  36. Meg says:

I am all about the pumpkin beer and don’t care who hears me singing its praises . . . and how early in the season! 🙂 If you have a favorite, you must share. I’ve had about a billion kinds now, but can never pick “the chosen one.”

Glad you’re enjoying The Vacationers! I liked it, but it didn’t blow me away. Definitely an easy, breezy read, though.

  37. Megan says:

Ha ha. I love how your reality TV influence is spreading to the.boy. My husband is actually more of a reality TV junkie than I am!

  38. I have to go get my pumpkin!! Cans on cans woooo haha 🙂

  39. Eileen says:

Well, I have also had my first pumpkin beer or three of the season, so it looks like we’re all going to hell in a handbasket together. 🙂 Besides, it’s September AND you’re moving, so there is totally nothing to justify. Drink that beer!

  40. Krista says:

Darling, a shared six pack will mend ‘most anything. 🙂

  41. Sofía says:

Does pumpkin beer really exist? I HAVE definitely most certainly have to try it! Good luck packing 🙂

  42. Christina says:

I am staying far far away from the pumpkin beer….. for now 🙂

  43. I unabashedly love the Kardasians. Their life is so exotic! I even got a little teary eyed during the wedding special. I mean, they very well could get divorced in a year or so, but that day probably felt like EVERYTHING to them. And it’s sort of fun that we got to be a part of that via a camera.

Did you see the promos for Khloe and Kourtney’s new show??? It looks like shit is going down! I sort of wish Scott would get his crap together. I know it wouldn’t make for as compelling reality TV, but I want to see them all happy!

  44. !!! Dorie!! So jealous, and can’t wait for that cookie tip!

  45. Kelly says:

OMG, love Dorie and that’s awesome that you got to meet her 🙂 Yay for pumpkin beer and the boy watching KUWTK with you 🙂

  46. Still can’t believe you got to meet Dorie!!

  47. Hotly Spiced says:

All this packing. When is the move? Whenever we’re packing, we seem to empty a lot of half-finished bottles of liquor – down our throats. Would rather become intoxicated than pack the half-finished bottles xx

  48. Danguole says:

DORIE!! That is amazing. I love her. I can’t wait for that cookie tip either–is it to help them stay round? I hate that flattened edge.

  49. Pumpkin beer – YES! Packing – NO! Moving sucks on so many levels.
