All good things come together in this bourbon chocolate chip banana bread – it makes the perfect morning treat!
I’m about to give you permission to not only eat cake for breakfast, but also to bourbon.
Yes, as a verb.
I mean business.
Not that you need permission. We’re all of age here. But it does feel good to be enabled, doesn’t it?
So let’s break out those shot glasses, a few brown bananas, and our secret stash of chocolate chunks.
Because, FRIDAY.
We got this.
Be sure to use the largest chocolate chunks you can get your hands on.
Whoever made up the phrase “size doesn’t matter” definitely didn’t take chocolate into consideration.
It’s really a “the bigger, the better” situation.
Mini chips, not invited.
Let’s party.
- 2 cups all purpose flour
- 3 tsp baking powder
- ½ tsp salt
- ½ cup unsalted butter, softened
- 1 cup sugar
- 2 large eggs
- 1½ cups mashed ripe bananas (about 3)
- 1 tsp lemon juice
- 3 tbsp bourbon
- 2 cups coarsely chopped chocolate
- Heat oven to 350F. Grease a 9x5-inch loaf pan and set aside.
- In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, and salt.
- In the bowl of a stand mixer fitted with the paddle attachment, cream together the butter and sugar until fluffy, about 3-5 minutes.
- Add in the eggs one at a time, beating for 1 minute after each addition. Scrape down the sides of the bowl. Mix in the bannas, lemon juice and bourbon. Mix until well-combined.
- Mix in the flour on low until just incorporated. Fold in the chocolate.
- Pour the batter into the baking pan and spread evenly. Bake for 45-60 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
- Remove from the oven and let cool for 20 minutes before inverting onto a wire rack. Let cool completely before serving.

So yes, please I will have a slice or two of this. (and thanks for the reminder!)
this is so lovely! I haven’t cooked or baked with bourbon but I would for this bread! Also that bananas foster bread?! whaaaat?!
I’ll take a dose of bourbon in the morning, lol–I kid. This looks scrumptious. The crumb looks lovely and the bread itself looks moist!
With 2 cups of chocolate chunks, this banana bread has got to be amazing!
Just when I thought banana bread was so zzzzzzz, you come along and make it awesome again. You win. Wait, we ALL win.
mmmhmmm I’ll have to slice me off an extra large piece of this loaf to accomodate the extra large chocolate chips…that’s how this stuff works, right? Right! Love all the things you’ve got going on with this bread. Bourbon? Hells yea, it’s Fuh-RIDAY!
Bourbon for breakfast and bigger chocolate chips – this is my kind of bread! It looks beautiful and so tasty.
Freaking YES to cake and bourbon in the morning!!
Anything that involves whisky in the morning is a good choice. AND CHOCOLATE.
Oh yes! I’ve made this and it was delicious!
Looks good. I hear you about the chocolate chips. There were some on sale this week at the store and passed them up because they were not the “chunky” size. Why bother?
Bourbon for breakfast makes me feel like I’m in a Tennessee Williams play.
Anything with Bourbon and banana together has to be good! And chocolate chips – it must be a killer!
I think the only way I’d enjoy bourbon is in a cake. Wine on the other hand, is a different story. I love the look of your cake; it’s very pretty with the swirling and the glaze and yes, bananas and chocolate are a wonderful combination xx
That sounds amazing, Joanne! And I’m with you on the mini chips – no thanks.
I never ever have enough banana bread recipes. Thanks for this new one. I love trying new banana bread recipes and I agree that with chocolate size counts!!!!

big YES and hooray for breakfast with bourbon chocolate chip banana bread. Just brilliant Joanne.
Why has this never been in my life? I need to make up for lost time. With jumbo chocolate chunks, for sure.
Are you kidding me? How am I not out buying the ingredients right now? Maybe being at work is stopping me, but not for long!
Had had ripe ripe bananas and after seeing how everyone was swooning decided I had to make this – even though I’m not a banana or chocolate bread fan gasp! Holy cow this is delicious, it’s so moist and rich tasting, now I’m a huge fan and I already loved bourbon!! Husband tried to eat the whole loaf! Thank you!
Some of my favorite things together in one recipe! Bourbon and dark chocolate go so well together.
Wow! I could eat this for breakfast, looks delicious Joanne!
Well, this is sad – for a change, I have NO brown bananas on my counter. Not a one. I think I’ll lock up the green ones that are out there. So my kids don’t get to them. It’s for their own good. Oh, and maybe I’ll hide the bourbon in my night table too. Do you think that gives a bad impression? 😉
This looks amazing. DEFINITELY going to try this soon.
That bread looks crazy moist. And delicious. And awesome. And well, I’m going to have to make it.
yes to large chocolate chunks but I have never heard of buying them – I just always chop a block of chocolate – and yes to a slice of that yummy cake

[…] Bourbon Chocolate Chip Banana Bread […]
This bbcc bread is tasty AND delicious! My family loved it, so it will become a staple from my kitchen.
[…] lately: Caramelized onions with bourbon, bacon and bourbon beans… So when I bumped into this recipe for bourbon and chocolate bananabread, I knew I had to try it one day […]
Sounds yummy!
This came out really good! I know you said no mini chips invited but it was all I had in the pantry and it’s still great with good chocolate distribution. I did 1 cup of chocolate and one cup of chopped pecans. I was a little bit short of banana too so I subbed a little applesauce to make up the difference, about 1/4 cup. Only have 8×4 loaf pan so it made 1 loaf and 7 muffins.
