1. New York is terrible 99% of the time during the winter, but during Christmas season, it’s pure magic.

2. Except for the tourists. They are the opposite of magic.

3. On a related note – HOW IS IT LESS THAN TEN DAYS UNTIL CHRISTMAS. I feel nauseous. And totally unprepared.

4. Don’t even ask me how many gifts I haven’t bought yet. (many.)

5. This list. I totally cried.

6. What really happens when you live your life according to Pinterest. And that is why I don’t even try.

7.  As an aside – having your husband do ALL THE CLEANING is totally an acceptable Pinterest-friendly way to live your life. Just saying.

8. One of my favorite parts of Christmas.

  1. I’m really behind on getting my gifts this year, too… I think we are going to go out tonight (hopefully!)

  2. that pinterest article was pretty interesting, thanks for sharing.

  3. Beth says:

Love the Pinterest link. And I don’t know if I should tell you this, but I was one of those tourists in New York at Christmas last year. Don’t hate me.

  4. ok, why is Parenthood ending. . why?!!!! dammit!!! I love that show. . and oh my gawd, I saw the “What really happens when you live your life according to Pinterest” thing and didn’t read it until now. . hilarious!!!! and don’t put mayo on your cream cheese on your mozzarella cheese on your meatballs. Truth.

  5. Couldn’t agree more with 1 and 2!!!

  6. Sues says:

SERIOUSLY sad about Parenhood. Only four episodes left??? What will my husband and I sit on the couch and cry about on Thursday nights now (seriously though…)???

NYC during Christmas makes me so happy, too!

  7. You crack me up! I totally agree with number 1 and since the only way I’m going to see NYC at the holidays is as a tourist, I feel a little conflicted about agreeing with number 2 – but I still do!! 🙂

  8. SallyBR says:

Oh, you also love the WS catalog! I laugh so hard that I cry sometimes – in this version, one of my favorites is the espresso machine and how he would like to pee on the coffee of “certain people” – priceless….

I would prefer a little less four letter words, but apart from that, the catalog review is PERFECT! remember the chicken coop from last year? Who ARE the people who buy that stuff????

  9. 1-YES! So excited to go see the magic 😀
    5-well now I’M cryingggg
    6-That would be torture
    8-heheheeee

  10. I can’t imagine being in NYC around Christmas…I bet it’s insane! And I saw that Pinterest thing the other day and had to laugh. In my mind I’d love a Pinterest life but in reality – it ain’t ever happening!

  11. I CAN’T EVEN WITH #5. JOELIA FOREVER.

  12. Heather says:

Ugh, I’m so sad that Parenthood is ending! Time to pull out the tissues.
I think tourists in any town are kind of the opposite of magic. Ha ha.

  13. Pam says:

Oh man… why did you give the link to the Parenthood last filming. Totally made me cry. Best. Show. Ever! You need to re-watch it once you have guys have kids!

I grew up in a ski resort so I can totally relate to how unmagical tourists can be! UGH.

  14. Mira says:

Christmas is less than a week away and I haven’t finished shopping yet! Too bad Parenthood is ending! That Pinterest article is fun 🙂

  15. Parenthood is ending…
I’m so glad my shopping is done, now wrapping and I have to read that article, heard it’s good.

  16. Omg, I just spent the better part of 45 minutes reading into the links, lol!

  17. Monica says:

I agree – NYC is so beautiful in December. It’s just the traffic and crowds that make it a little stressful. Glad your husband is doing the cleaning so you can hopefully finish your shopping – online is definitely the way to go. : )

  18. I am on top of my holiday shopping this year but only because I am in full baby prep mode so I feel the need to get everything else “done” if that makes sense. And, I totally agree – NYC during the holidays is magic – I miss that and miss the quiet emptiness of the city when everyone leaves on Thanksgiving and Christmas – it’s the best!

  19. Christina says:

I’ve kind of always wanted to be one of those NY Christmas tourists….. 🙂

  20. I’d love to see NYC in the lead up to Christmas. London is pretty magical too but I imagine New York would have something extra special.

  21. Awwwww NYC Christmas is magical! I haven’t come to the city for a while, need to come back!

  22. Tina says:

We are only buying for the kids. It takes some stress out for the rest of the family too and no one goes into debt. I love the photo of the city street and lights, magical.

  23. P says:

Christmastime in NYC—I totally need to experience this! It sounds magical 🙂

Luckily I complete my Christmas shopping. Involved a lot of online browsing comparable to time wasted on Pinterest 😛

  24. Hotly Spiced says:

Could I be that one exceptional tourist? I do love how pretty the trees are and it’s so lovely New York decorates the streets for the Christmas period. Gorgeous! We have lots of Christmas lights around here too but with daylight saving and summer, it doesn’t get dark until around 9pm so we don’t have many dark hours to enjoy our lights xx

  25. Megan says:

Aw. That list! I am going to miss Parenthood so, so much!

  26. I know I say this every year, but… I can’t believe it’s already mid-December. How is that possible?? My shopping is done. The wrapping? Not so much. EEP.

  27. Kate says:

The only time of winter I will go to NYC is Christmas. But then again, that makes me the hated tourist!

  28. debbie says:

My Christmas shopping is way behind schedule……I have quite a few things left that I need to buy. I checked out the Pinterest article and really can’t relate to it. All I ever go on Pinterest for are interesting recipes (and there are tons of them) and old pictures…….I do find time getting away from me though when I get on the site. It is very addicting!

  29. Living in a holiday town I totally get what you mean by tourists. I am about to go and do the cleaning 🙁

  30. Kelly says:

Totally agree, love NYC during Christmas time! How is it only a week away now too!! Gaah! My shopping is done but still have some little things left to finish off.

  31. Sarah says:

New York looks amazing in the winter! I wish I could visit it sometime when it’s snowing and the lights are twinkling. I promise not to be too annoying of a tourist 😛

The pinterest article was a great read. I read that and LOL’d my way through the entire thing. And that Williams and Sonoma catalog commentary. I need that man’s voice in my head when I walk through Williams and Sonoma, because I look at every thing there, and think: is this THE BEST invention or what?

  32. Reeni says:

I should be watching Parenthood! I’ll have to force feed myself through it all on Netflix or something. It’s that magical time of the year – if only we could have a little snow. Just a dusting.

  33. Zainab says:

I need to watch parenthood. On my holiday plans 😉

  34. sandra says:

count yourself lucky. The problem with being done shopping early is you keep adding on – and spending way too much in the process. I dunno Xmas in NYC is kind of my version of hell… even without the tourists.

  35. sandra says:

gosh do I sound grim?! didn’t mean to. have a wonderful holiday!!!

  36. Johanna GGG says:

I’d love to see new york at christmas (or any time really) – and I love that photo of the lights – but I think I need your husband to give mine some tips on cleaning! I keep telling myself that not buying all the presents by now is strategic and I try to believe it 🙂
