downton abbey brunch

1. I’m not sure if I mentioned this, but one of my New Year’s resolutions is to HOST MORE THINGS. So this past weekend I had my friends over for brunch! It was (supposed to be) Downton Abbey inspired (more on that on Friday), and I would definitely call it a success.

2. And by success I mean that I didn’t burn the apartment down in the process.

3. However, you should really know that five minutes before everyone was supposed to be there, I still hadn’t showered and I bribed enlisted the.boy to help me in exchange for his very own tea cake. And then I kicked him out. So classy.

4. Speaking of tv, Scandal is TAKING OVER MY LIFE. Can’t.get.enough.

5. Sometimes I BEG the.boy to let us watch another episodes. And when he refuses on account of “WE NEED SLEEP”, I throw a tantrum. It’s not pretty.

6. I’ve been trying to branch out with my workout routine so I don’t dread going to the gym, and in the process I rediscovered zumba!! I’m pretty sure I look like a fool to the max, but I don’t care. I love it. I did three classes last week and I’m pretty sure my calves will never be the same.

7. How are you working out in 2015??

8. Did you guys get MLK day off? I spent my day laying on the couch watching Gilmore Girls and eating Indian food. It was good stuff.

9. Is there anything better than a lazy Monday? I think not.

10. Can we do it again next week??

  1. I think I need to start watching Scandal! I have never tried Zumba, but the class is always packed at my gym. I love my BodyPump class.

  2. Host more things?!? Like old Canadian friends?! *wink wink*, lol, a Downton Abbey inspired party sounds insanely fun!! MORE DETAILS!!

  3. I love your “Coffee Talk” =)
Hosting is something I really enjoy, too. Even the stress of preparing everything on time is good!
Thanks for giving me ideas for new TV series to see, IΒ΄m always searching for new ones, even if with the baby I almost have no time for it at the moment :/

  4. Gah, we don’t get MLK day off. I’m jealous of your lazy day at home. And of your Indian food.

  5. Meg says:

I don’t get anything but the “major” holidays — Thanksgiving, Christmas, Fourth of July — off, so I always have wicked holiday envy on things like President’s Day and Columbus Day! My husband was home and cleaning the house, though . . . and all I had to do was sit at my desk all day. πŸ™‚ So I guess I still kind of won?

I love hosting events but don’t do it nearly enough! We just moved last June and finally have space to have friends over, but I’ve been too tired/lazy to do it recently. We did have a big Christmas party in early December, which was so fun . . . better get some more of that in before the baby comes!

  6. Three day weekends should be the rule, not the exception.

I never tried Zumba but have heard it is so much fun. Good to know it’s a decent workout, too!

  7. I loooove that you hosted a Downton Abbey-inspired brunch!! Such an awesome idea, and I may have to steal it so I can host my own! LOL. And I’m so jealous that you got MLK day off. The couch was calling my name that entire day!

  8. oooooh that brunch sounds awesome!!! and yes I think we should always have 3 day weekends!

  9. SallyBR says:

Workout for me is the same as last year, a mixture of P90X and P90X3, with a little running on weekends.

I am addicted to P90X, it’s such a complete workout, involving flexibility, balance, strength, cannot tell you how satisfied I am with it, almost 6 years doing it regularly

hosting parties is so much fun, I do it less now, but love every time we host one.

  10. bellini says:

Yes let’s do it all again shall we πŸ™‚ especially the Indian food and hosting parties.

  11. I love your resolution! I always talk about hosting more events like brunch and gatherings but I never actually do it. I love any excuse to enjoy good food with friends!

  12. Kelly says:

I’ve always wanted to try Zumba – that sounds like a fun way to get a workout in! Yay to trying to host more things and lazy days πŸ™‚

  13. danielle says:

Just introduced my daughter to Gilmore Girls love that show!

  14. Heather says:

I think Mondays should always be a day of rest and nothing. It would make the rest of the week so much easier.

I desperately need a workout that keeps me motivated. I’ve been doing something called Mutu on and off (for DR after pregnancy), but now I’m ready for something more fun.

  15. Laura says:

I DO THE EXACT SAME THING with scandal…it is terrible and wonderful. I have now watched all available shows and am waiting with baited breath for it to be back on prime time πŸ™‚

  16. Christina says:

My gym misses me I think….. have been attempting morning workouts.. but the 5am wake up call is not doing the trick πŸ™‚

  17. P says:

I haven’t been to a zumba class since…last summer! Haha. It would be fun to go again though!

  18. Lux Ganzon says:

Hi, Joanne. Sounds like you’re kicking 2015 in the butt already what with all the good things and time you’re having as early as now.

My officemates are also fans of Scandal. I can’t watch it yet, I’m still into TBBT and 2 Broke Girls. πŸ™‚

I wish I can also host more, but I think if I would, it would be more of pizza delivery. πŸ˜›

Enjoy the rest of the week.

  19. Yayyyy zumba!! That was my very first love! I cannot wait to see more on the Downton party!

  20. Watching Gilmore Girls and eating Indian food all day – is there anything better??
I didn’t get Monday off, but, I should have played hooky and joined you in a Gilmore Girl marathon with a side of Chicken Masala and parotas!

  21. A Downtown Abbey inspired brunch sounds amazing! Love the bakes you shared! I definitely need to host more things!

  22. Rachel says:

ahhhh Scandal! I am watching it without the husband and that makes it very tough to do a healthy binge. Shaun came down with a violent stomach bug and was out of commission so last night I went on a 4 ep binge and had to force myself to go to bed. I could have stayed up all night watching!!

  23. Lazy days off are the best (especially if you get to watch Downton or equally good TV in them!). It turns out that England gives you two bonus Mondays off in May, a fortnight apart, which I think is pretty much the best idea ever.

  24. Kate says:

I’m similarly trying to entertain more. Right now I’m planning a Valentine’s inspired brunch for friends and kids! Should be…interesting.

  25. i had to work on monday. πŸ™ πŸ™ πŸ™ students at my college were tweeting all sorts of ridiculous (yet hilarious) things about how the university doesn’t respect MLK, etc. of course they just want a day off and i don’t blame them. i wanted to favorite the tweets but since i saw all this via the library twitter acct that i run, i figured that was a bad call, haha. πŸ™‚

  26. Monica says:

Watching Gilmore Girls and eating Indian food sounds so good! ; )

  27. Krista says:

I just picked up Scandal from the library and am so excited to get started. πŸ™‚

  28. Sues says:

I didn’t get MLK off and I’m still bitter about it. None of my clients were even working and there were about 5 people on my usually crowded train. Boo.

    I just started watching Scandal!!

  29. Scandal is called The Fixer here and I’m hooked πŸ™‚

  30. Hotly Spiced says:

I haven’t done any exercise since I had all those procedures on my legs, then it was Christmas, then it was too festive to work out between Christmas and New Year, then we had the annual family holiday and now…well now I’m out of excuses. I won’t be doing rumba though – trust me now; I’d make more of a fool of myself than you xx

  31. Hotly Spiced says:

Had a few dramas getting my comment posted. This is what came up… “You are posting comments too quickly. Slow down.” WTF?

  32. Merryn says:

    You can’t beat a good tea cake with a good serial on TV accompanied by like minded friends watching the show. Zumba is popular but it is hard work. I would much rather stroll around our suburb or along the beach anyday, but admire those who partake in scheduled exercise classes πŸ˜€ Then you can eat more cup cakes;

  33. Veronica says:

Well that was one cool thing about working for the postal service (OK, so it was all cool, I loved that job) was getting federal holidays off. Woot! I had to work b/c now I get no days off…and wouldn’t change that for the world. πŸ™‚ My exercise has been going for daily walks to the playground and then walking around some more with a tiny toddler. I love my life. haha πŸ™‚

  34. I’m glad Dino isn’t into Scandal… it means more for me! Plus it’s one of the only shows I don’t have to wait for him to get home to watch πŸ˜‰

  35. Natalie says:

i want to know what all those brunchy things in the picture are!! yum!

  36. Zainab says:

Oh girlfriend Zumba is my life!! I wish we can go together!!

  37. Sarah says:

On the couch watching Gilmore Girls (love) and eating Indian food sounds pretty amazing. I wish I did that too!
