It sounds cliche, but anyone else SUPER amped to reset all of their eating habits come Jan 1??

I was doing really well with my pseudo “diet” of only eating dessert on the weekends, and then the holidays happened. And so now I’ve basically been eating dessert every night in anticipation of not doing that starting Monday. (Totally ridiculous, but I can’t be the only one who thinks this way.) And, of course, now my pre-pregnancy jeans that I’m still trying to fit into (<– ugh, I should just buy new jeans) but that were kind of maybe starting to fit again, definitely do not fit again. Are you following? I realize I make minimal amounts of sense.

All that to say, I really need to get back to some sort of healthy eating. And probably exercise, but I really do not have the time. I used to roll my eyes at people who said that, but with a kid + intern year, my only time to myself is the half hour before bed that I’m currently spending to write this. Maybe I can get back to exercise during fellowship??? I really hope so. I miss it.

Enough about me!!! Tell me about you. What are your resolutions/goals/intentions for 2018??

I’d like to be more intentional about the time I spend with my daughter and husband (ie detach myself fully from my phone), somehow get better at time management, be more organized, and maayyybeee fit into those jeans (but more likely, just buy a pair of jeans one size bigger, at least in the interim).

Happy new year and happy eating!!

Pretty much I feel like you’ll get back to normal when your kid is 4. That’s how it was for me, both times, and my kids are 6.5 years apart. When you are working full time, there’s just no time. I managed to exercise a few times a week. Usually that meant a couple of 30 min walks at lunch (very low bar for exercise), a couple days a week of pushups, crunches, and squats (10 reps x3), and one workout on the weekend.

I’ve been stuck all of December because of the fires and a cold. We ran away twice, and school was cancelled for seven days before the break. Too much time in hotels, then a lot of time indoors because of the ash. I swam a few times but that wasn’t good for the cold, which turned into an infection. I’ve been hitting the wine and chocolate HARD. I’m going to start the new year right with a hike on Monday and a track workout Tuesday. My last run was the last track workout on December 5, ugh.

Also it’s good that you were close on the jeans. Took me 2-3 years each time, but then I was, ahem, older.

I used to roll my eyes at single friends who said they didn’t have time for laundry. When it comes to exercise, even a tiny bit makes me feel better, but I always prioritize sleep.

  2. Last year was a great year for you, and I know you’ll have an even better one this year.

I definitely need to get back on the healthy eating kick!

  4. Joanne!! It’s been forever since I came by your blog. I’m thrilled to here about husband + kid. Congrats. =) I’m now at the +3 kids stage, heh heh. Still cooking, but not blogging so much about it. I’m glad to find you’re still at it! Happy New Year.
