That feeling when all your dreams come true?
That’s how I felt last weekend when my (old) roommate got engaged to her longtime boyfriend.
I might have shrieked like a woman unhinged in the middle of Union Square when she called to tell me.
YES. (!!!)
I did the unthinkable recently.
And not “unthinkable” in the “Whoa! That’s Amazing!” kind of way. It’s more of the “hide in your closet in shame” variety of preposterous.
Some things are meant to be sugar-coated, especially in the world of food.
And I’m not talking glazes or icings here. But rather, little white lies, omissions, exaggerations that are scattered throughout a dish or, at the least, one’s description of it.

I’m sorry for all the review posts lately, you guys. But when someone sends you an email that says “Hey! It’s Mediterranean Diet Month, can we send you free cheese and yogurt to celebrate?”
As a full-blooded Italian, with Mediterranean blood coursing through your veins, you just can’t say no. It would be against your heritage, your upbringing, and everything your grandmother ever taught you about anything. And so the only correct answer is YES, followed by a superfluous amount of exclamation marks.
Or risk being haunted indefinitely by relatives past. Obviously.
