Every weekend my mom calls and asks, with all the hope she can muster, “So….did you go out this weekend?”
She’s still holding strong to her belief that bars are the place to meet future husbands.
And I still strongly beg to differ.
We’ve agreed to disagree.
(Well…I’ve agreed to disagree. She’s agreed to keep calling and arguing with me about it. Sigh. Moms. Can’t live with em, or without em.)
In the days before Christmas, my apartment was quite a “situation”.
There was a pumpkin butterscotch layer cake in the fridge.
About five different kinds of cookies on the counter.
Peppermint brownies on the table.
And then there was me. Handcuffed. To my bed.
Are you ready for The Takeover?
The one week of the year that strikes fear into the hearts of seasoned gym-goers. Makes us actually consider skipping workouts and encasing ourselves in the warm comfort of our beds.
Just to avoid…The January Joiners (JJ’s). (
They flood into our gyms with no idea what they’re doing. Wearing leotards on the elliptical (and only leotards. For real. This happened.) Bouncing around like they’re having a seizure (there was one guy who I almost pulled off a machine, ready to grab his tongue with a paper towel. Then I decided to let him be. If it really was a seizure, then eventually he’d fall off, which would free up a machine. Yes, I’m that evil.) Taking up all the good equipment. Stealing our elbow room in pilates.
Until all of a sudden it’s two weeks later and, just as suddenly as they appeared…they’re gone. And we can all breathe again. (And flap our elbows around like funky chickens as much as we so desire.) Whew. That was rough.
Think you can actually hold out until dinner to eat these feathery soft buttery buns? Think again. For my post about the recipe, head over to Marcus Samuelsson’s blog!
I know everyone is pretty gung ho about eating healthy meals right now and so, with a little goading from Janet, I thought it would be fun (and helpful!) for me to share my favorite healthy recipes of 2011, all of which I think would be great ways to kick off 2012! Let’s jump in!
Three years ago I resolved to write. And eat. And photograph. And share.
I put myself out there, not knowing who or what I would find. Not knowing where it would lead me.
Not knowing that I had stumbled into a world as amazing and supportive and magical as this.
Not knowing that I would find all of you. That you would hold me up and support me and help me grow.
Everyone always says they have the best readers. But I know for sure that I’m the one who’s right. You make me laugh and smile and give me joy every.day.
When everything else sucks…
When I have to spend six weeks locked up in my room studying for the biggest most important exam of my medical career.
When I get broken up via text message and go on bad date after bad date after bad date.
When I find out I’ve fractured my pelvis yet again a week before my third marathon.
In the end. It doesn’t suck. Because I have this. And you. (And chocolate cupcakes.)
So to everyone who reads this blog. Everyone who has commented. Everyone who has lurked, silently. Thank you for making this amazing.
Thank you.
