I’m convinced I’m never going to get this whole night shift thing down.

As I’m writing this, it’s Thursday (day) and while I should be sleeping because tonight kicks off another stretch of nights for me,

I. JUST. CAN’T.

I swear the pressure of feeling like I have to sleep is preventing me from doing exactly that. Yesterday was my day off and I was somehow totally capable of taking a two hour nap (with Remy snuggled up to me) at 4PM. But today – NADA.

Also totally intended to take a Benadryl (or two) at like noon to force myself to sleep but I forgot until 3pm when I went to lie down and at that point it was just too late. So now I’ve been laying in bed since 3 trying to force myself to sleep for the past two hours. As you can see, I’ve given up.

Guess I’m going to be up for 24 hours straight today. HALP.

I’ll be on nights this whole weekend so I doubt I’ll be up to cooking or doing anything too exciting, so please please do some extra fun eating for me!! Maybe I can convince the.boy to go to Dough doughnuts and bring me back something extra-caloric and yummy. Here’s to hoping.

Happy eating!

Joanne. I totally get your panic about not being able to sleep and knowing you have to perform. You will do it anyway, and you will do it really well, and then tomorrow you will also sleep really well and the week will be off to a reasonable start. This current pressure is outstanding and will shift. You are by nature an outstanding performer and a fully growed-up human. So you are managing your massive load and it will get easier and easier. Not sure if blogging is a blessing or a curse at a time like this but please…if it makes your life heavier we can just wait. And be there for you on the other side. Go girl.

I always had a hard time “sleeping when the baby sleeps” but I feel like if I were working nights I’d eventually get better about day sleeping. I hope the same holds true for you.
